The fruit of the Spirit: The essential tool for Christian living

Every human being is controlled and being possessed by a spirit which dwells in him/her. God original plan was for man to be controlled by the Spirit of God, until our first parents – Adam and Eve- was deceived by Satan in Genesis chapter 3. Until you are born-again you
cannot understand the will of the Holy Spirit which is the controller of man.

In this post, we will be looking at the Spirit which God expects every believer to possess. The scripture called them the “fruit of the Spirit” in Galatians 5: 22-23. The passage read thus;

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, godliness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law”.

Let’s look at each of the nine fruit of the Spirit:

1.  LOVE: Love is having strong affection for other people. God showed this love by sending His only begotten son to die for us and Jesus maintained it by coming to die for the sins of man – John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that he gave His begotten son…”
Love separates Christians from unbelievers. Love makes you to see others as you see yourself (golden rule).

2.  JOY: God always want his children to always be in a joyful mood. This is because it increases the Holy Spirit influence in us.
“These things have I spoken unto you that your joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” John15:11.
When you are joyful, you increase your lifespan, therefore, never give worry and anxiety a place in your life.

3.  PEACE:  Peace is being free from war, wrong and anxiety. When you are in peace with God and man, you will become connected with heaven.Without peace, you cannot make heaven.

 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” Hebrew 12:14.

4.  LONG-SUFFERING: Long-suffering is bearing problem or annoyance patiently. A man of patience will go far in life because he cannot give way for the devil to take advantage of his heart.

5.  GENTLENESS: Christ is our perfect example. Not rough or violent; not harsh or severe.
The scripture recorded that;

“Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered; he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously” 1 Peter 2:23.

6.  GODLINESS:  This is one of the qualities that God wants us to exhibit as we journeys to heaven. Being godly is to be very upright. You cannot be upright when you are not close o God.

7.  FAITH: Faith is complete trust or confidence in God. We build our faith by constantly reliance in the word of God.

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses” 1 timothy 6: 12.

Faith is the display of confidence in god and His word until your result is obtained.

Faith believing that what God promises must surely be fulfilled.

Faith is a weapon that cannot be ignored in a Christian’s race. It is a factor that guarantees your victory and secures your breakthrough.

8.  MEEKNESS: This is the virtue you cannot do without. Christians must be quiet, gentle and obedience.

9.  TEMPERANCE: Always watchful not given to alcohol. As a born Christian, you must avoid alcohol. It is equally the mastering of several things through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
